HOMEMADE DRIED APPLE CHEWY CANDY: No Sugar Adding, Very Delicious, Very Healthy Snack For Children

Today I share with you how to make dried apple at home. If you don’t have an oven, don’t worry because I show you how to use the sun to dry apples.

  • If the experiment is successful, make lot more.
  • Because the family will grab it in a while, and there is not enough to eat!
  • We use the “3 steaming and 3 roasting” method to increase the water content in the apple, dissolve the sugar in the apple, and make it sweet.
  • Using an oven temperature of 90 degrees Celsius (low temperature) will help preserve the aroma of apples. At the same time save a lot of energy for you.

How to make homemade dried apple from A-Z:

Making dried apple ingredients:

  • Apples: 5 (big ones are better)
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon

How to make homemade dried apple:

Stage 1: Preparing the apples

  • Wash and dry the apples
  • Prepare 1 bowl of water, mix with 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Peel the apples and immediately soak in a bowl of salted water to avoid blackening due to oxidation.
  • Cut the peeled apple. Remove the apple core.
  • Note: If the fruit is small, cut it into 4 or 5 pieces. If the fruit is large, cut it into 5 or 6 pieces. Do not cut thinly because after drying, it doesn’t taste good.
  • Place the cut apples into salt water.
  • Finish cuting, take the apple out to dry.

Stage 2: 1st Sun drying apples or drying apples with the ovens

 If Sun Exposure:

  • Arrange apples on a tray to dry apples slide.
  • Dry the apples in the sunshine for 2 to 3 days.
  • Apple slices will shrink
  • The surface also dries evenly

If using an oven:

  • Place the apples on the griddle.
  • Place in the oven at 90 degree Celsius (194F) for 4 hours.
  • After 4 hours, taking out. The surface of the apple also shrinks like sun exposure.

Stage 3: 1st Steaming apples. Duration of 15 minutes

We need to steam the apples because it makes the fruit a little softer. When drying, the sweetness will be uniform and make the apple slices more flexible.

  • Prepare 1 steamer with boiling water below.
  • Put apples in a basket, spread evenly and steam for 15 minutes on medium heat.
  • After steaming, you will see the apple pieces turn pink orange color.
  • The apple slice expands more.

Stage 4: 2nd Sun drying apples or oven drying apples

If sun exposure:

  • You put the apples on the tray and dry them in the sun or in a ventilated place for 2 days
  • After 2 days, the apple pieces will dry out a bit but still have more flexibility and chewy than the 1st exposure

If using an oven:

  • Adjust the temperature to 90 degree Celsius (194F). Bake for 90 minutes.

Step 5: The 2nd Steaming apples. Duration 30 minutes

  • Put the apples in a steamer with boiling water.
  • Steam for 30 minutes on medium heat.
  • After steaming for the second time, you will see the apple pieces are darker and colored like honey contained in the apple pieces

 

Step 6: The 3rd Sun drying or baking

If sun exposure:

  • Arrange the steamed apples and let them dry in the sun for one more time
  • This time, it’s up to you whether you like soft or more chewy dried apples. You can decide your best fit time.
  • As for me, leaving the drying time for 3 more days is good for our family taste.

If using an oven:

  • If using an oven, you can also set the temperature to 90 degrees Celsius (194F)
  • Bake for 90 minutes is delicious

 

How is the the finished dried apples product will look like?

  • Apple pieces are shinny, bright brown like amber.
  • Looks like there’s honey inside.
  • Shiny surface.
  • When it’s cooled, use your hands to tear it, the fibers of the apple meat are linked together, very flexible. Chewy but not hard
  • This dried apple flavor is slighly sweet and sour. Children and adults both love it.
